About

Misty’s previous experience includes working with a professional non-profit counseling agency and as an integrative psychotherapy intern in a medical setting. Prior to pursuing graduate school Misty served in full time ministry, as a youth director, where it became clear that counseling was her calling. She has special experience treating emotional processing, living joyfully with physical illness, and healing from relationship injuries (i.e. family dysfunction, hurt or loss of relationships, and abuse).

Misty is a holistic therapist who skillfully considers the mind, body, relational, and spiritual elements of each client. She understands the pain that many face as a result of living in an imperfect world. She is also deeply aware of the freedom that follows healing and loves bringing hope into painful situations. Her helping approach focuses on meeting individuals in their unique need and providing a personalized plan to attain therapy goals. In order to achieve this she uses an integrated structure created from Biblical principles and sound psychological and clinical findings.

Therapeutic Approach

Therapeutic approaches are selected for each client based on their presenting problem, the client’s therapeutic style preferences, and approaches that have empirically supported evidence. Person-centered therapy is used to gain understanding of the client’s concerns, and to collaboratively establish therapeutic goals. Once a holistic picture has been created, therapies such as internal family systems, Gestalt therapy, or systemic theories may be implemented to reach therapy goals. Misty believes that pursuing therapy is a sign of great strength. It is a willingness to explore yourself and your experiences which leads to greater insight and healing.

Brainspotting

In addition to talk therapy, Brainspotting can be used to address trauma. Best described by creator David Grand, ‘Brainspotting locates points in the client’s visual field that help to access unprocessed trauma in the subcortical brain’. Essentially, where we look impacts what we experience in the brain and how we process.  Misty has been trained in Brainspotting (Phase I) and incorporates this practice into therapy when use of the technique may aid in a client’s continued growth and healing.
